Weather Forecasting

The weather forecasting system is not without fault and is often laughed off in everyday life because it is not an exact science. "The weatherman said it will be sunny all day" can often be heard while standing in the pouring rain. What needs to be understood about weather forecasting, however, is that it is a science of predicting by percentages, not predicting exactly what the weather will be like. These percentages are not what you would expect either, and certainly not what you would play a hand with in Las Vegas. Often time, if there is a 30% chance of rain, it will likely rain. Just as when there is a 90% chance of rain, it is often possible that the weather system will change suddenly and it will not rain at all.
Still, meteorologists can often turns these percentages into very good predictions using computer programs specially designed for just that. By logging on to the Weather Channel website, you can see the long term forecast for any part of the world that the Weather Channel can predict using extremely expensive satellites and technology. Today, long term forecasts are available on nearly every news station and web site thank to the advent of the internet.
